A Green County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured and a Ford Explorer patrol vehicle sustained significant damage during a pursuit early Tuesday morning, May 31.
At about 12:29 a.m., a citizen reported that a vehicle was traveling at excessive speeds and operating in a reckless manner on County EE between Albany and Monticello. Deputy Adam J. Bass located a dark colored Chevrolet Camaro operating at excessive speeds nearby on County X. The vehicle fled when the Bass activated his lights and siren and a pursuit occurred on several town roads and county trunk highways in the area.
The pursuit was terminated in the vicinity of Wis. 59 and County FF when Bass lost sight of the fleeing vehicle.
About five minutes later, Bass again encountered the vehicle on County OK near Wis. 11/81. A second pursuit occurred, and the vehicle fled on multiple roads in Spring Grove and Jefferson Townships.
As Bass rounded a curve at the intersection of CTH K and Union Road, the patrol vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch and collided with a fence and a tree and the suspect vehicle fled the scene. The patrol vehicle sustained disabling front end damage and the airbags deployed. Bass was wearing a safety belt and harness and was treated at the scene by Juda First Response and Green County EMS. He was later examined and released from The Monroe Clinic Hospital and is expected to return to duty in the next couple of days. The Monroe Police Department investigated the crash. Bass is an 11-year veteran of the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
