Deficit better than expected

MONROE - Monroe school district's budget deficit for the 2014-15 school year will come in about $300,000 better than expected.

Business Manager Ron Olson presented the newest numbers at a school board meeting Monday.

Revenues for last year will be about $150,000 under budget, which Olson attributes to the PEP grant - the district didn't spend all of the grant money for the year - and to open enrollment revenues.

Expenditures will be about $450,000 to $500,000 under budget, leaving the budget with a net gain of $300,000 to $350,000.

Olson had planned on a budget deficit of just over $1 million, but the most recent numbers put the deficit at about $700,000.
