Uva K. VanHouten, age 95, of Monroe, WI passed away after a brief yet serious illness on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Graceland Manor in Monroe. Uva was born in New Glarus, WI on October 16, 1919, the daughter of William and Jenny (Rabe) Babler. Uva graduated from New Glarus High School, worked as a baker, and then was united in marriage to Lloyd P. VanHouten on April 24, 1943. Lloyd and Uva lived in Monroe and eventually moved to Orangeville, IL.

Uva was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and worked at Swiss Colony in the packing department for approximately 35 years. Uva was a kind soul and loved helping the animals at the Green County Humane Society by contributing financially as well as walking and socializing with the dogs that were up for adoption. She also fed the neighborhood cats and birds for many years because she could never turn away a hungry animal.

Uva also loved handicrafts that included the unique and special craft known as crewelwork and needlepoint. Uva was also an avid sports fan and cheered for the Chicago Cubs, however after moving back to Wisconsin from Orangeville, she switched loyalties to become a Milwaukee Brewers fan. She managed to live on her own with minimal assistance until the age of 95 at which time she went to live at Graceland Manor where she was very happy.

Uva is survived her 3 children: Cheryl (Robert) Beck of Monroe; Linda (Charlie) Bennehoff of Rock Grove, IL; Danny (Laurie Asplund) VanHouten of Monroe; 5 grandchildren, Tanya, Dana, Darla, Erika and Heather; 9 great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; and a step-great-great-grandson.

She was certainly loved by all and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Uva was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Evelyn Marty (South Wayne); brother Daryl "Sonny" Babler (Browntown); husband Lloyd VanHouten (Orangeville, IL); infant daughter Mary Lin; son-in-law Ron Folgate (Lake Summerset, IL); grandson Tim Folgate (Lake Summerset, IL); and all of her pets who will meet her on the Rainbow Bridge.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 15th, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31st Ave., Monroe.

There will be a private family burial service at Highland Cemetery in Monticello.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Green County Humane Society in Uva's name.
