DARLINGTON - Ross F. Crist, age 91 of Darlington, WI died on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County surrounded by his family.

He was born on November 13, 1919 to Phillip & Harriett (Meighan) Crist. On November 27, 1945, he married Magdalen L. Aurit at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Elk Grove Township, WI. Together they farmed in the town of Darlington for many years and raised six children. Magdalen preceded him in death on April 20, 1992.

Ross served during World War II in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945 and recently made the trip to Washington, DC to see the World War II memorial.

He was very active in county and township matters. He served over 50 years on the Darlington Town Board. He also served for 22 years on the LaFayette County Board from 1969 till 1991. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, of the Darlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the Bates O'Brien Howe Wiegel Darlington American Legion Post.

Ross is survived by his children: Shirley Stauffacher, Geralyn (Ron Prine) McGuire, Robert Crist, William (Vicki) Crist, Dennis (Sherry) Crist, Steve (Gina) Crist all of Darlington, 24 grandchildren: Tom, Amy, Mike (Mindy) , Jeff (Lindsey), Casey (Jenny), Jill Matt (Cindy , Travis (Kim) , Dee, Adam, Kurt, Rayna (fiancé: Doug O'Brien), Kalee, Carson Crist, Heath (Jen Kerske), Julie (Trevor) Stephenson, Eric (Adrienne), Jed, Jenny (Jared) Stackman, Summer Stauffacher, Luke (Maggie), Ryan, Elly (Larry Baker), Lance McGuire, 39 great grandchildren: other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Ken, Bob, and Joe Crist, and a sister: Mary Olson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, WI with Fr. Randy Budnar officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Bates O'Brien Howe Wiegel Darlington American Legion Post.
