Opal J. Grossen, age 89, of Monroe, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 13, 1922 in Green County, the daughter of Clarence and Leona (Johnson) DeVoe. She married John Grossen in 1939 and after his death she married Edward A. Grossen on September 19, 1954. Ed just passed away May 16, 2012. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, P.T.A.; Women of the Moose Lodge # 599, Green County Homemakers. She also started the Young Americans 4-H Club; a Den Mother, avid bowler, card player, loved to walk, travel, shopping, but her biggest joy was spending time with family and being married to Ed for 58 years.
She is survived by her children, sons: Donald (Jackie Duncan) Grossen of Madison, Dan Sperstad of Monroe, a daughter, Vicki (Jeff) McNett of Monroe; 4 grandchildren: Scott (Jennifer) McKeever, Michelle (David) Anspaugh, Halee McNett, and Kayla (Michael) Smiley; brother: James (Mary Lou) DeVoe, of South Wayne; sister: Mary Ann Matthews of Monroe; 4 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Andrew McKeever, Isabella and Adriana Anspaugh; a son-in-law, William (Patsy) McKeever. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and a daughter, Dianne McKeever.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, Wisconsin with Rev. William T. Mike Heath officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Shriner Hager Gohlke funeral home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. Monroe, Wisconsin. A memorial fund will be established in Opal's name.
