Joseph Edward McArdle "Ed", age 83 passed away surrounded by family on June 10, 2015. Ed was born February 3, 1932 near Darlington, Wisconsin to Thomas McArdle and Catherine (McGowan) McArdle. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1950, attended the University of Wisconsin and then served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years from 1950 to 1954.
Ed was united in marriage to Marilyn Lanz on June 18th, 1955 at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. He was a member of St. Victor's Catholic Church. Ed was a long time insurance agent with Lanz & McArdle Insurance retiring in 1995 after a 30 year career.
Ed enjoyed his time with family and friends fishing at Witch Bay Camp in Canada and Ely, Minnesota, as well as, trap shooting and weekend bird hunts. Ed was an avid golfer and served as President of the Monroe Country Club. After retirement, he rarely missed a day of gathering for coffee with friends.
Survivors are his beloved wife Marilyn of 60 years, children Sandra of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Jeffrey (Barbara), Lisa Baumann, Mark (Linda) all of Monroe and James of Mequon, Wisconsin. Also surviving are sisters Kay McDonald of Madison, Elaine Boardman of Elkhorn and brother, Richard (Barbara) of Roscoe, Illinois, and his treasured grandchildren Rebecca, Mitchell and Kristin McArdle. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Thomas and William and sister, Ina Mae White.
Family and friends may call at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church, 1760 14th Street, Monroe, Wisconsin on Monday, June 15th from 9 a.m. to the time of services at 11 a.m., Father Michael Klarer Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Monroe Country Club following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Parish, the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, 600 Highland Avenue, Madison, WI 53792, or to the charity of your choice.
