John Bauman, age 87 of Monroe, died on Sunday, July 12, 2009 in Brodhead surrounded by his family.

John was born on April 18, 1922 in Jefferson County, the son of Leonard and Lena (Kappeler) Bauman. He married Frances Leuenberger on November 19, 1942. John farmed all of his life, first as a youngster on his father's dairy farm before purchasing his own at age 18.

His other loves included hunting, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends. After getting ill he loved putting together puzzles and playing Chinese checkers.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane (Don) Nelson of Brodhead and Barbara (Don) Noble of Monroe; a son, Ronald (Barbara) Bauman of South Wayne; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Jr. in 1984; a great-great-granddaughter, Morgan in 2007; and four brothers, Ben, Paul, Herman and Leonard.

Funerals services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. Pastor Mary Gafner will officiate with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. A memorial fund will be established in John's name.
