Lena - Anita R. Wernicke, age 67 of Lena, IL passed away on Sunday July 15, 2012 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. She was born September 20, 1944 in Monroe, WI the daughter of Victor and Dardnella (Schulthess) Rood. Anita graduated from Monroe High School in 1962 and then received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from UW Platteville in 1966. Anita was married in Monroe,WI to Dale Wernicke in 1970. She was a school teacher for 48 years. Anita spent the majority of her years teaching reading at the Stockton Elementary School, but also taught in Hartford, WI and Monroe, WI. She was a member of the Lena Womens Club, D.A.R. Stockton Chapter, and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Anita is survived by her husband Dale, son Ryan (Christina) Wernicke of Genoa, IL, and 2 grandchildren Laci and Ty.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Lucretia Rood.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 18, 2012 at the Leamon Funeral Home in Lena, IL.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday July 19, 2012 at the Leamon Funeral Home.
Officiating will be Rev. Randy Nicholas.
Interment will take place at the Lena Burial Park.
A memorial has been established in her name.
