FREEPORT — Herbicide resistance is one of agronomic crop producers’ most challenging issues. Kathryn Seebruck, Crops Educator, U of I Extension, will address Navigating the Inevitability of Herbicide Resistance at the upcoming Northwest Illinois Agronomy Summit. 

Understanding of resistance is not keeping pace with the frequency of resistance evolution, making it increasingly difficult to mitigate. This presentation will explore herbicide resistance evolution, discuss the rise in non-target-site (NTS) resistance, and illustrate the importance of utilizing multiple control methods to prevent weed seed production.

The Northwest Illinois Agronomy Summit will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Highland Community College Student Conference Center, 2998 W. Pearl City Road, Freeport, IL. 

Additional topics to be addressed include Practical Nitrogen Management for Corn, presented by Giovani Preza Fontes, Field Crops Agronomist, U of I Extension. Connor Sible, a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Crop Physiology Department at the University of Illinois, will present Understanding Biologicals for Row Crops.  Dan Smith, Southwest Regional Specialist, Nutrient and Pest Management Program, University of Wisconsin-Madison, will discuss Building Soil Health in Northern Climates. 

Highland Community College Agriculture Instructor Justin Ebert will be on hand to talk about the Highland Community College research plots and the results from this past growing season.
