DARLINGTON - A 24-year-old Darlington woman faces multiple charges in connection with a fatal accident last Thanksgiving morning.

Haley Andrews, 24, Darlington, has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, and causing injury while operating intoxicated. Darlington Chief of Police Jason King on Monday announced the charges filed by Lafayette County District Attorney Charlotte Doherty.

The charges are a result of a traffic crash that occurred on at 5:07 a.m. Nov. 27, 2008, on Galena Street at the Main Street Bridge. Andrews was driving a northbound vehicle that crossed the center line and struck head-on a southbound vehicle driven by Horst Haenert, 74, of Scales Mound, Ill.

Haenert was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while Andrews and her passenger, Amy Fitzsimons, 23, of Darlington, were transported by Rural Medical Ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to King, the traffic crash has remained under investigation since Thanksgiving. Final blood results and traffic crash reconstruction results were received recently, thus bringing the investigation to a close and resulting in the referral of the case to the Lafayette County District Attorney's Office.

The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted the Darlington Police Department with the traffic crash reconstruction.
