This undated photo shows the early days of St. Clare Hospital in Monroe. Based on the style of the cars, the photo was likely taken around the time the hospital opened in 1939. The hospital, which has been sponsored by the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes, later merged with Monroe Clinic. Last week, Monroe Clinic officials announced that SSM Health has acquired the health facility and will assume sponsorship of the clinic and hospital. The old hospital building was recently torn down as part of a Monroe Clinic expansion project.
