MONROE — Becoming a parent is one of life’s most significant milestones, but for many expectant fathers, the journey to parenthood is filled with questions.
To help local dads feel more prepared and confident, SSM Health Monroe Hospital is offering a free educational class designed specifically for men. “Dad Life, Real Talk” will be held from 6-8 p.m. on October 22, in SSM Health’s St. Clare Conference Center, 515 22nd Ave.
The class provides expectant fathers with an opportunity to learn about childbirth, newborn care and the transition to parenthood while connecting with other men preparing for the same experience.
The session will be led by Samuel Beuschel, RN, a registered nurse at SSM Health Monroe Hospital and father of four. Having worked in the Family Birth unit, Beuschel understands the unique questions and concerns many fathers have as they prepare to welcome a child.
“Many men have questions that they may feel hesitant to ask in a traditional birth class setting,” Beuschel said. “Our goal with ‘Dad Life, Real Talk’ is to create a comfortable environment where dads can connect with one another and gain practical knowledge.”
During the class, fathers will learn:
● What to expect during labor and delivery
● How to effectively support a partner through childbirth
● Ways fathers can assist with breastfeeding support
● Newborn care basics
● Tips for navigating the transition to parenthood
“Understanding what to expect during labor and delivery and learning the basics of newborn care can make a meaningful difference for the entire family,” Beuschel said. “We want dads to recognize just how valuable their support is and leave feeling prepared for the important role they play.”
The Dad Life, Real Talk class is free and open to all expectant fathers in the community. To register they should call 608-324-2241 or 815-233-0999.
