MONROE — The Monroe Optimist Deep Fried Cheese Curds was the Single Location winner for the Travel Wisconsin “Crown the Curd” contest.

The local group won one of the three categories for best curds in the state, with The Great Dane winning the 2-5 location category, and Culver’s chain restaurant taking the prize home in the 6-plus location level.

The contest was held online, via fan vote.

Travel Wisconsin received more than 1,900 nominations.

Monroe Optimist Deep Fried Cheese Curds are only available for the yearly Green County Fair, and every-other year at Cheese Days in downtown Monroe.
