MONROE — Five Monroe team members received the Core Value Awards from Azura for their dedication to representing the company’s values.

The Core Value Awards are given each quarter to team members who truly show that they are living Azura’s Core Values while assisting those within the family of care. Recipients include Charity Hesselman, Sherri McCallum, Mary Kaiser, Maikayla Johnson and Trevor Phillippe. Each caregiver at the Azura Memory Care of Monroe home acted in a manor to improve life for the residents there.

Charity Hesselman spent the night on a cold winter evening to ensure that residents were not affected by the upcoming storm that might prevent her from getting to work the next day.

According to her team, “Charity is very committed to her job and co-workers and our residents. She is exceptional.”

Sherri McCallum not only worked much of the holiday season so that others could be home with their families, but she also comes to work each day with a positive attitude and smile for all.

“Sherri embodies respect by being a true team player,” said a fellow team member who works with McCallum.

Another team member added, “She is kind, compassionate and thorough in her work, which makes her a pleasure to work with.”

Mary Kaiser received a special nomination that came from a family who recognized the exceptional care she provided to Patrice Casselberry’s mother, who considered Mary as a “dear friend”.

“Mary was there the day Mom entered Azura, and she was the one who was at the door for us when Mom was passing,” Casselberry said. “Having her there as we said goodbye meant the world to me. She is steady, reliable, compassionate, and so much more.”

Maikayla Johnson took it upon herself to create a hair salon for residents to enjoy after restrictions related to the pandemic disallowed residents the ability to have their regular salon experience.

“She washed, blow-dried, curled and styled hair for the residents,” explained her fellow team member. “It made the residents feel good about themselves and recover their self-esteem. As a result, our residents were glowing with joy and happiness.”

Trevor Phillippe, this past holiday season, recognized that a resident needed a smile. He took it upon himself to get a special Christmas gift and card. It meant so much to the resident that they began to smile and show everyone what was received.

“Trevor is exceptional for giving a special gift to a resident,” shared a team member.

Azura thanks all of their team members for their exceptional work.
