Vikings Eric Onsrud and Ancil Norland return from a conquest and present chartering past President Jon Grinde with silver plunder to take home.

MONROE — In honor of the Sons of Norway celebrating 25 years in Monroe, 45 people dined at the Legion on Nov. 6.

District President, Cheryl Wille-Schlesser reminded everyone of the beginning of Ostestaden, the cheese place. Local president, Jean Busker, showed images of those who led, baked lefse, read Norwegian literature, celebrated Solstice bonfires, researched heritage, and picked up trash along Wis. 81.

The District President who chartered Ostestaden 25 years ago was Jon Grinde from Madison. He reviewed some Norwegian language and lead Norwegian songs. His challenge was to be like Viking explorers who let go of the coast and sailed out with courage.

The public is invited to a Sons of Norway Winter Solstice fire with Pat and Annette Holmstrom Dec. 8 to bring back the sun. Call Jean Busker at 608-325-2439 for information.
