Concert is June 16

MONROE - Jackie Gessert, daughter of Michelle Wiegel Gessert, Munster, Ind., and granddaughter of Shirley Wiegel, Monroe, will present a free vocal performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.

The one-hour concert will include a wide range of music including classical to contemporary.

She is a 2012 graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy with an emphasis in classical voice. Gessert was a member of The American Girl Place Theater, Chicago, performing in more than 500 shows. She was also an Ambassador for American Girl, where she opened stores across the country, as well as performing in parades, the Taste of Chicago, and singing in special events. Gessert sung the national anthem for the Chicago Cubs and the Gary Railcats, and she sung at Navy Pier, Chicago. She was named as a YoungArts Award winner through the National Foundation for the Arts, and recently won the Young Artist Competition in the Music category for Northwest Indiana.

Gessert will be attending the University of Denver-Lamont School of Music in the fall.
