MONROE - Construction season might be in full swing now but it is the end of construction that is giving Angelus Retirement Community in Monroe an occasion to celebrate.

June 5, Angelus hosts a public open house to showcase its new addition with 22 apartments.

Together with the original apartments built in 2003, Angelus now has 62 apartments: studios, one bedrooms, one bedrooms with den, and two bedroom apartments.

The open house is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 5.

The event features short tours, refreshments, door prizes, and live music from 1 to 3 p.m. by entertainer Trem Nolan.

While Angelus Retirement Community accepts residents age 55 and older, the range in ages varies from 60s to 90s. Angelus is licensed as a residential care apartment complex.

The June 5 open house offers two unique opportunities for people age 65 and older.

Angelus is offering door prizes, including a grand prize of a flat screen television. There also is a treasure hunt. The finder of the golden key wins one month of free rent equivalent to the studio apartment rate.

The key will be hidden in the new part of the building, and the prize is transferable.

Angelus Retirement Community is at 616 Eighth Ave., Monroe.
