Green County Human Services

You might be wondering how the downturn in the economy has affected Green County families - let me share some data with you. In 2009, Green County Human Services saw participation in the Food Share program rise 35 percent, Medical Assistance participation rise 17 percent and Energy Assistance participation rise 16 percent.

Along with record unemployment, Green County experienced record homelessness and near-homelessness. Human Services saw a total of 112 unduplicated households that were homeless or near homeless. These numbers do not include doubled-up housing. The 112 households represented 141 adults and 146 children served in this group. As we work to meet the needs of people in our community, the United Way serves as a strong community partner and as a valuable financial resource.

The United Way is vital to Green County's families; by lending your generous financial support to United Way, you are improving the lives of those less fortunate in our county. Funds from the United Way support proper daycare, dental services, camps, and after-school programming for our children; nutritious meals to our senior citizens; domestic violence prevention education to our youth; and much, much more.

One of the reasons Green County is a special place to live is its support of those in need. United, we can make a difference - please give generously to the United Way.
