DARLINGTON - Darlington's girls basketball team held the Orioles scoreless in the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way to earn a 59-23 win over Argyle Monday night.
Ashley Martin scored 14 points for Darlington (3-0), and teammate Elizabeth Mathias added 11. The Redbirds finished with nine players in the scorebook, and shot 16-of-21 from the free throw line.
Darlington's 20-0 first quarter left Argyle trying to get on the board. By halftime, the Redbirds extended their lead to 33-6.
Kelsey Bartels led a young Argyle squad (0-3) with seven points.
Darlington will host Riverdale on Thursday to open up SWAL Conference play. Argyle hosts Albany on Tuesday, Dec. 9, to open up its Six Rivers East Conference season.
