Monroe All-Stars shine

WISCONSIN DELLS - The Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association held their annual Senior All-Star Series Monday and Tuesday in Wisconsin Dells. Representing Monroe as players were shortstop Ellyn Grossen, second baseman Chandra McGuire, first baseman Kayla Updike, and outfielder Taylor O'Leksy.

Monroe head coach Dale Buvid was selected to be the head coach of the White Team. He was assisted by Noel Herbst, Donna Skogen and Joe O'Leksy, who are members of Monroe's coaching staff.

Players are nominated for this recognition by their head coach and then selected by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association. A total of 153 players were named to 13 different teams. Division 1 had four teams and Divisions 2, 3, and 4 had three teams each.

Players met their coaches and had a practice during the morning of June 16. In the evening they were recognized at a banquet with their families at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The games were played on Tuesday at the Woodside Sports Complex outside Wisconsin Dells.

The Division 2 White team with the Monroe players won its first game 12-2 over Division 2 Blue and then lost a second game 4-2 to Division 2 Red.
