Young surpasses 500 career strikeouts

EAST TROY — Senior Mckenna Young recorded her 500th career strikeout in Brodhead’s 5-2 win over East Troy on Thursday, May 4. The South Dakota-commit gave up two unearned runs on two hits and struck out 18.

The Cardinals scored four of their fives runs in the top of the third inning. Alecia Dahl led off the inning with a bloop single over the second baseman’s head. Brodhead then hit four straight singles for four runs. Sophia Leitzen, Taetum Hoesly and Young recorded RBIs. 

Leitzen finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Young and Hoesly also had multiple-hit games, while Hoesly drove in a team best two runs. 

The next day, Brodhead defeated Columbus 6-2. Jerrica Schwartz, Alexis Kammerer and Leitzen tallied two hits each. Ava Risum collected the win, giving up one earned run on two hits. She struck out 14 and walked just one.

Pecatonica avenges extra-inning loss to Juda-Albany

BLANCHARDVILLE — After falling to the Panthers 3-2 in eight innings on April 11, the Vikings had revenge on their minds. Pecatonica exacted that revenge with a 9-5 victory on Friday, May 5. 

The Vikings scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to secure the win. Trinity Gruenenfelder drew a bases-loaded walk against Juda-Albany pitcher Avary Briggs. With two outs, Pecatonica recorded three straight RBI singles from Maddie Hirsch, Chloe Schraepfer and Bri Peterson.

Hirsch finished the day 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Schraepfer picked up the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits. She struck out nine and walked four.

Gracie Freitag’s third-inning home run was the highlight of the Panthers’ offense. In her next two at-bat she was intentionally walked. Briggs suffered the loss, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits. She struck out 10 and walked four.

The day prior, Pecatonica defeated River Ridge 4-2. The Vikings scored all four of their runs in the sixth inning, which was highlighted by Schraepfer’s three-run home run. She also collected the win in the circle, giving up one earned run on just two hits. She struck out 16 and walked just one.

Oregon bests Monroe

MONROE — The Panthers never trailed, as they defeated the Cheesemakers 8-2 on Friday, May 5. Sydnee Conway led the offense with two hits, while Katie Witt drove in two runs. Kaegann Paulson suffered the loss. She gave up six earned runs on 10 hits and struck out 11.

Darlington drops game to Boscobel

BOSCOBEL — Despite a three-run fifth, the Redbirds fell 8-4 to the Bulldogs on Thursday, May 4. Jaylyn Schwartz and Sophie Wiegel went a combined 4-for-8 with three RBIs to lead the offense. Wiegel suffered the loss on the mound, though, giving up nine earned runs on 10 hits. 

Argyle two-hit by Belmont

ARGYLE — The Orioles mustered just two hits in their 11-0 five-inning loss to Belmont on Friday, May 5. Alexis Rosenstiel and Kyleah Mick each recorded a single. Mya McNett took the loss, giving up five earned runs on 13 hits. Argyle committed five errors.
