MONROE — Monticello-Belleville senior Josh Potter carded a 75 at the WIAA Division 2 River Valley sectional May 28, snagging one of three individual qualifying spots for the state tournament June 3-4 in Kohler.
Potter was the lone representative for the Ponies that finished fifth in the Evansville regional, missing out on team sectionals by nine strokes. This is Potter’s first trip to state.
Argyle-Pecatonica junior Alex Ruetten just missed qualifying for the Division 3 state tournament, losing the first hole of a playoff with Dane Schauls of Durand-Arkansaw. As a sophomore in 2023, Ruetten made state. He finished with a 181, which was enough for 23rd.
“The kid from Durand rolled in a 45’ birdie putt on the first playoff hole,” Argyle-Pecatonica head coach Chuck Chandler said. “Golf can be a cruel sport. We should have a solid returning group for next year, but that feels like it’s a long way away right now.”
The 2024 state golf tournament will take place at Blackwolf Run — Meadows Course in Kohler. Division 1 tees off at 7 a.m. June 3, followed by Divisions 2 and 3 at noon. On June 4, the tee times switch.
