MONROE — In the first Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association rankings of the 2019 season, two local teams were ranked in the top 10 in their respective divisions.

Monroe (3-2) was ranked third in the Division 2 WFSCA/WisSports.net poll that came out April 8. The Cheesemakers trailed Kewaskum (6-0) and Whitnall (2-1), and were ahead of Rock Valley teams Beloit Turner (6-2), Jefferson (7-1) and Whitewater (7-2), as well as Badger North power Portage (3-2). Whitnall won the D2 title in 2018, defeating Portage and Mosinee in the state tournament.

In Division 5, Black Hawk (2-1) opened in the No. 9 spot, one behind Six Rivers West rival Highland (6-0) and third-ranked Belmont (6-0). Iowa-Grant (5-2) and Southwestern (3-3) also received votes. McDonell Central was the top-ranked team, while Assumption was No. 2. McDonell Central, the defending D5 champions, defeated Assumption in the state semifinals in 2018 and Oakfield (now-ranked fourth) in the championship.

The Warriors and Belmont are scheduled to clash April 18, while Black Hawk will host Iowa-Grant April 26 and Highland May 9.
