BRODHEAD — Brodhead-Juda hosted nine other teams in the Jim Church Invitational on Friday, April 21, where the Lady Cardinals took first by 0.5 points over McFarland.

The Brodhead-Juda girls team amassed 131.5 points, led by 10 top-three finishes.

Kalena Riemer took first in both the 400- and 800-meter runs with times of 1:02.66 and 2:31.53, respectively. The girls 4x400 relay team (Stella Arn, Olivia Hartwig, Danica Demrow and Riemer) also took first with a time of 4:30.79 — 10 seconds faster than the second-place team.

Individually, Arn racked up two second-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She completed the races in 13.12 and 27.50 seconds, respectively. Onni Williams and Brenely Jones took second in their respective events, too. Williams threw 35 feet, six inches in the shot put, and Jones jumped 31-09 in the triple jump.

Addison Yates, who competed in the 100-meter hurdle finals, took third in the long jump with a distance of 15-00. In the high jump, Madi Brown took third with a height of 4-08, while Kirsten Fish took third in the discus with a throw of 98-03. 

On the boys end, the Cardinals collected 91.5 points for second place behind McFarland.

Like the girls, the boys 4x400 relay (Nathan Engen, Marcus McIntyre, Grant Perdue and Eric Woodward) took first with a time of 3:39.81. Individually, Perdue took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.99 seconds. Teammate Engen finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 38-10. 

Gavin Pinnow had two third-place finishes. He ran the 800-meter in 2:12.20 and tied with his brother Tegan Pinnow in the high jump with a height of 5-06. Blake Matthys also took third in the shot put with a throw of 45-9.5.

Albany also attended the meet, finishing seventh for the boys (62 pts) and eighth for the girls (35 pts). Ava Ahnen led the girls with a first-place finish in the 1600-meter run and third-place finish in the 3200-meter run. She completed the races in 5:48.17 and 13:01.11, respectively. 

Bryce Hughes paced the boys with his first-place finish in the high jump, recording a height of 5-08. He also took second in the long jump with a leap of 20-00. Like Ahnen, Gage Roth placed in the top two for the 1600-meter run. He took second with a time of 5:10.68. Caleb Smith took third in the discus, recording a throw of 124-06. 

Both Black Hawk teams took ninth — the girls collecting 24 points to the boys’ 32.5.

The girls excelled in the field, where Raylin Peterson won the shot put (39-07) and Jaliyah Collins won the discus (106-08). Lane Marty represented the Warriors in the hurdles, taking second in the 110-meter (18.68 seconds) and third in the 300-meter (44.49 seconds). 

Monticello boys and girls took tenth, totaling three and nine points, respectively. Natalie Wahl was the only top-three finisher for the Ponies, taking second in the discus with a throw of 98-04.5.
