BRODHEAD — Ava Risum and Gwen Baker were locked in a pitchers’ duel, when a Brodhead error allowed Milton to score in the bottom of the seventh en route to a 1-0 victory on Tuesday, May 10.
Baker, a junior, has already committed to play softball at Division I Butler University. She struck out 11 Brodhead batters and allowed just one hit — a single to Sophia Leitzen.
Risum kept pace, also striking out 11 batters. She gave up three hits, two of which came from Julia Wolf. Wolf doubled in the seventh and scored on the error.
The loss was just the second of the season for Brodhead, who is ranked No. 2 in Division 3. Meanwhile, Milton is ranked No. 7 in Division 1.
Hendrickson heats up
BLANCHARDVILLE — With a pair of wins over Monticello-New Glarus 12-2 and Argyle 11-1, Pecatonica secured second place in the Six Rivers East Conference. The Vikings ended up just a game behind Juda-Albany.
Pecatonica 10-run ruled Argyle in six innings and scored in all but one of them. Diana Hendrickson had a night to remember at the plate, as the sophomore went 3-for-4 with a home run, triple and three RBIs. She was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Chloe Schraepfer, who had two RBIs at the plate, picked up the win. She gave up just one earned run and struck out 12 batters.
In the mercy-rule of MNG, Hendrickson led the offense yet again. She was 3-for-3 with two doubles and another home run. She drove in six runs. Schraepfer added another to the win column, allowing just two hits while striking out six.
Sadie Wilkins and Molly Olson accounted for the hits. Olson suffered the loss, giving up six earned runs on 10 hits.
Barneveld blanks MNG
MONTICELLO — The Ponies didn’t come up with the timely hit, as they fell to the Eagles 8-0 on Tuesday, May 16. MNG tallied six hits to Barneveld’s nine. Molly Olson accounted for two of those hits, both singles. Kira Whisler suffered the loss, giving up two earned runs on six hits. She struck out two and didn’t issue a walk.
Redbirds finish conference season winless
DARLINGTON — With losses to Mineral Point 11-3 and Cuba City 10-1, Darlington finished the SWAL Conference season 0-14.
Lylah Norgard led the Redbirds at the plate in the loss to the Pointers. The sophomore went 2-for-2 with a walk and one run scored. Sophie Wiegel took the loss, giving up five earned runs on seven hits. Against Cuba City, the offense was evenly spread with six different batters recording a hit. Cayla Golackson had the lone RBI. Wiegel was charged with the loss. She gave up six earned runs on 11 hits.
Panthers route Devils 8-2
JUDA — No. 6 Juda-Albany nears the post-season with a four-game win streak after defeating Evansville 8-2 on Monday, May 15.
Emerson Briggs went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ciarrah Davis and Alana Durtschi also recorded multiple hit games, while Gracie Freitage drove in two runs with a homer in the third. Avary Briggs collected the win, scattering six hits for one earned run.
