Knights rally past Argyle

NEW GLARUS - Sophomore Noah Zimmerman and junior Hayden Latsch played starring roles in the seventh inning of the New Glarus High School baseball team's 7-6 win over Argyle on Thursday.

Argyle led 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh when the Glarner Knights got off to a strong start with Zimmerman delivering an RBI single off Argyle relief pitcher Mitch Flannery to tie the game at 6. With the bases loaded, Flannery walked Latsch to bring in the game-winning run.

It marked the first win for New Glarus coach Chris Rear in his first season as coach.

"All wins are huge," Rear said. "It gives the kids some confidence that what we are doing and teaching works. They finally get to see the results. It's a good confidence builder for them."

New Glarus sophomore Jared Carney went 2-for-4 to lead the Knights.

Josh Gray picked up the win, pitching one inning in relief. He gave up one earned run and struck out two. The Knights used four pitchers. Junior John Chenoweth started and tossed two innings. He gave up one earned run. Chenoweth struck out two and walked two.

Argyle junior Cam Treuthardt went 2-for-4. Treuthardt started and pitched five innings. He gave up one earned run on three hits. He struck out six and walked four.

New Glarus will host Marshall in a doubleheader on Saturday.
