Cards give up big sixth in loss

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda baseball team pounded out 10 hits but lost a Rock Valley Conference game to Whitewater 8-3 Thursday.

The Cardinals and Whippets were locked in a 1-1 game going into the sixth inning. The Whippets erupted for six runs in the sixth en route to the win.

Brodhead-Juda junior Austin Diffenderfer went 2-for-2. Senior Tyler Schwartzlow and junior Layne Millard were each 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Brodhead-Juda junior Matt Schmitt had two RBI. Schmitt pitched 42⁄3 innings and gave up six runs - one earned on five hits. He struck out four and walked four. Almonzo Friedly pitched 11⁄3 innings and gave up two runs, but just one earned. He struck out three and didn't issue a walk. Brodhead-Juda junior Alex Nipple tossed one shutout inning and struck out two.

LODI - Garrett McGraw went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to propel the Blue Devils past New Glarus.

Lodi senior Zach Steuck went 2-for-3 with a home run in the first inning.
