ALBANY - Brock Gilkes threw a complete-game five-hitter and Tyler Dahl stole home Monday to help the Albany High School baseball team defeat Barneveld 3-1.
With their first win over the Eagles since 2005, the Comets improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Six Rivers East Conference.
"Right now, we're just putting a lot of pressure on the (opponents') defense," Albany coach Mitch Heinemeyer said.
"We've been able to steal a lot of bases and put the ball in play. We've cut down on mistakes and made them make plays, and if they don't we have been able to capitalize."
Travis Oliver and Cole Trapp each had RBI singles in the first inning to give Albany a 2-0 lead.
Tyler Dahl, who was 2-for-2, stole home with two outs in the fifth inning to increase the lead to 3-0.
Barneveld scored its lone run in the seventh.
Gilkes had six strikeouts and four walks.
Albany had four hits and three errors.
