Robert R. Prien, age 83 of Monroe, died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at his home. He was born on August 7, 1935 in Monroe, the son of Milton and Grace (Haberman) Prien. He was a 1953 graduate of Monroe High School where he finished second in state running track. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959. He married Gay Lee Bailey on June 7, 1970 at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Bob was self employed as a well known and respected building contractor for 40 years. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, Morel hunting, and playing fastpitch softball. He liked to watch the Brewers and Packers and his yard always looked nice as he enjoyed manicuring the lawn on his days off.
He is survived by his wife, Gay Lee Prien of Monroe; three children, Robert J. Prien of Arizona, Todd (Jennifer) Prien, and Peter Prien, both of Monroe; a step-son, Timothy Smith of North Carolina; six grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; a sister, Neva Bower of Orangeville, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry (Susan) Prien; and a brother-in-law, Romaine Bower.
A visitation will be held for Robert R. Prien on Monday, November 12, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. A private family service will be held at a later date.
