Matthew J. Herbst, age 39, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the UW Hospital in Madison. Matt was born January 24,1982 the son of William and Pamela (Vordermann) Herbst. He was a graduate of Monroe High School.

Matt married the love of his life, Jennifer Zimmerman-Stiner on July 3, 2010 in Monroe. He worked for the City of Monroe in the Park and Rec Department. He was very involved in Park and Rec coaching football, softball, and was a referee for volleyball. He took great pride in coaching for his daughter Alexis’ team. He loved hunting, fishing, firework shows, bike rides, and cooking. Matt also loved all animals; especially his cat, Remmy.

Matt is survived by his wife, Jenn Herbst; daughter, Alexis Herbst; step-son, Ethan Mueller; father, William “Bill” (Shari Cook) Herbst; brother Alec Herbst; paternal grandmother, Elva Hermanson, all of Monroe; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pamela Herbst; maternal grandparents, Jacob and Dorothy Vordermann; and paternal grandfather, Freddie Herbst.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home. In Matt’s true spirit please feel free to dress casually.

Private Family Services will be held. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
