Lois E. Colney, age 90 of Monroe, died Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at her home. She was born on July 29, 1930 in Stephenson County, IL the daughter of Lester and Eltabell (Bartlet) Zettle. She was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School. Lois was united in marriage to Walter F. Colney on November 18, 1949 at Staver United Methodist Church, rural Monroe.

Lois, along with her husband, farmed for 35 years in Winslow, IL and Monroe area; owning their own farm on Montgomery Road in Jefferson Township for 15 years. They later moved to Monroe in 1985. She and her husband worked many years at Villa East (now Country View) Apartments assisting with maintenance.

Lois was a longtime member of Staver United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Financial Secretary, and the secretary for Room for You Class and Memorial Fund. She was also a member of Richland Creek Watershed, Green County Ag Chest, where her favorite thing was whipping cream for cream puffs. She was also a Monroe Dairy Queen Chairperson for 20 years and later a Dairy Queen judge. Lois received the 2011 Senior Outstanding Ag Business Woman of the year.

Lois worked for Armour Creameries, Swiss Colony, Color Putty, Green County Job Center, and Sunshine Realty. She also volunteered her time for the Green County Nutrition Aide for nine years. She enjoyed taking many different classes at the Behring Senior Center, quilting being one she enjoyed the most. She also did lots of crocheting to pass the time.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Donna Bare of Beloit; sister, Susan Dillon of Monroe; brother, Ivan (Anna) Zettle of Monroe; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law, Charlie Bare.

Private Services on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 with Pastor Sarah Gabuyo officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Staver United Methodist Church or Monroe Clinic Hospice.
