CAMBRIDGE — Continuing their hot streak to begin the 2024 season, Monroe drew with Cambridge-Deerfield 3-3 on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The first half remained scoreless until United (1-0-1) got on the board with 10 minutes left in the frame. They took a 2-0 lead within the first two minutes of the second half.
Monroe (1-0-2) responded with a goal from Hudson Davis, assisted by Carsen Bartholf. Matthew Setterstrom scored to tie the game at two.
The Cheesemakers took a lead in the 70th minute with a goal from Trenton Wyss.
With time winding down, Cambridge-Deerfield knotted the score once again with a penalty kick. The score held for a 3-3 draw.
After two more nonconference games against Portage-Poynette (0-2-0) and Platteville-Lancaster (1-1-1), Monroe opens conference play with a game against East Troy (1-0-0) on Sept. 12. The Trojans finished in the middle of the pack in the Rock Valley with a 3-5 record. One of their wins was against Monroe 7-0.
