MONROE - Two Illinois men were arrested Saturday after they reportedly robbed a man at gunpoint in Monroe earlier that morning.

Elijah L. Martin, 18, and Demarco D. Owens, 18, both of Winslow, were arrested and charged with armed robbery and receiving stolen property - a Class C felony and Class A misdemeanor, respectively - after a 22-year-old Monroe man reported at 12:18 a.m. that two men took his wallet and phone after threatening him with a handgun in the 2000 block of 16th Avenue.

After the victim reported the incident to police, officers investigated the scene of the crime and discovered that a woman living near the scene enticed the victim to approach the area on foot at night. Martin and Owens were found at the woman's residence with some of the victim's stolen property and a handgun.

Martin and Owens were arrested and jailed pending court. The maximum possible sentence on their charges is 25 years in prison.
