Two injured in traffic accident near Albany

ALBANY - Two people from Monroe were injured and taken to Monroe Clinic following a traffic accident near Albany Saturday night.

The accident occurred at about 6:15 p.m. on Wisconsin 104 at English Settlement Road in the Town of Albany. A vehicle driven by William J. Burke, 55, of Juda was northbound on Wis. 104 when he lost control of his vehicle on the ice and snow covered roadway and entered the southbound lane of traffic, according to the Green County Sheriff's Department. A vehicle operated by Stephen F. Hammel, 60, of Monroe was southbound on Wis. 104 when Burke's vehicle came over the hill in the southbound lane and collided with Hammel's vehicle head on. Both vehicles sustained severe damage.

Hammel and his passenger, Gloria A. Hammel, 66, Monroe, were transported to the emergency room for injuries sustained in the crash. Burke was not injured. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Burke was cited for failure to keep his vehicle under control and released pending court.

Green County deputies, Rock County deputies, Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department and Albany EMS responded.
