MONROE — A Brodhead man was arrested on a first-offense charge of operating while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle and driving off, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Kevin G. Malkow, 57, was also cited for hit-and-run on property adjacent to a highway, driving with a prohibited blood-alcohol concentration greater than 0.15%, failure to notify police of an accident and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

Deputies responded at about 6:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, to the scene of a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of County F and County OK, Town of Decatur.

An investigation later showed that Malkow was westbound on County F when he failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road and hit a traffic sign post. The vehicle continued into the ditch and collided with an embankment.

Malkow then drove off down County F but his vehicle became disabled due to the damage it sustained in the crash. A tire and fender came off. He abandoned the vehicle at a residence on County FF, and deputies located him nearby.

Malkow had injuries from the crash but declined medical treatment. He was released pending court.
