MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St. has received a matching grant of $10,000 from automaker Toyota.

The grant is from the Toyota Dealer Match Program. Ruda Chevrolet/Toyota of Monroe made an initial gift of $10,000 to the Monroe Arts Center Legacy Campaign for the arts center's building project and then applied to the Toyota Dealer Match Program. The Ruda gift and Toyota match total $20,000.

In the application to the Toyota Dealer Match Program, Jean Ruda wrote: "Their work to 'nurture an appreciation for the arts' is the most visible. Many people know the Monroe Arts Center for its performing arts series (2010-11 was their 35th anniversary season) and its gallery exhibitions. MAC's outreach to area students is an important and growing part of their service to the arts. They arrange for artists to perform for children in the area schools through the Performances in the Schools Program.

"They also work 'to aid in individual creative development' with program such as Wisconsin Regional Arts Program, MAC Photography Contest and Exhibit, and Community Showcase of Talent. The preservation and integrity of the historic facility (which is on the National Register of Historic Places) is an equally important part of MAC's mission. This historic building provides a fine venue and is a rare and beautiful artistic expression itself," Ruda continued.
