Green County Historical Society: Green County Courthouse, 1910s

Photo supplied by the Green County Historical Society
Will E. Trukenbrod took this photo of the Green County Courthouse, probably in the 1910s. It appears to have been taken from an upstairs window of the Commercial and Savings Bank on the northeast corner of the Square. Notice that there is only one wagon with horses amongst all of the Model T automobiles. There is a sign that shows the traffic moving "One Way" and there are no lines to indicate the parking spots. There is a rumor that a photo exists of the building of the courthouse with a dirt ramp from 9th Street so the horses could haul large stones to the courthouse. It would be great to include that on the cover of the next pictorial book of the Monroe area. If you have information about where to find that photograph or have questions, please contact Matt Figi at 325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
