MONROE – Green County had its first fatal traffic accident of 2021, according to a press release from the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

The office was notified at approximately 6:12 a.m. on March 31 of a one-vehicle rollover crash along Wis 59 approximately .1 mile east of Greenbush Road, just northeast of the City of Monroe. The road was closed for several hours.

Deputies, along with Monroe Rural Fire Department and Green County EMS were dispatched to the scene.

Deputies located a badly damaged pickup truck and the body of an adult male several hundred feet from the highway in a field. Cody J. Martin, 27, of Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle had been eastbound on Wis. 59, failed to negotiate a curve, left the highway and overturned.

Martin was the lone occupant of the vehicle and had not been wearing a safety belt. He was ejected.

Deputies believe that the crash occurred late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and that the scene was not visible until daylight. The Green County Coroner was called to the scene and the Green County Highway Department assisted by providing barricades to block the area during the crash investigation.
