Mary E. Schmid, age 71, formerly of Monticello/Monroe, died Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua.

She was born on February 27, 1941 the daughter of Wayne and Ellen (Hawkins) Jackson. Mary graduated from Evansville High School and Green County Normal Teachers College. Mary and Glenn Schmid were married on November 28, 1959 in Monticello, they divorced in 2000. Mary was a school teacher from 1959-1962 in rural area country schools and later was a teachers aid, she always enjoyed teaching young children. She farmed with her husband in the Monticello area, and later worked at Farm & Fleet from 1978-2005, where she retired in 2005. She was a member of Washington Reformation Church rural Monticello. Mary was an avid animal lover along with a passion for flowers and country music.

Surviving are her children, Sherry (Tom) Bocklund of Ferryville, Michael (Jodie) Schmid of Rolla, Missouri, Rusty (Teresa) Schmid of Monticello; grandchildren, Courtney, Brittany, Allison, Eric, Ashley; step-grandchildren, Dalton, Ashley; great grandchildren, Levi, Teegan; sisters, Shirley Gray of Beloit, Wilma Pautsch of Roscoe, Illinois, Hilda Smith of Rogers, Arkansas, Nancy Zwieg of Janesville; also nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Wayne and Ellen, 3 brothers, Rodney, Merle & John.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Green County Humane Society, in her name.
