Lillian Frances Florence Beer age 96 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her home. She was born on October 9, 1915 in rural Albany, WI the daughter of John & Elsie (Legler) Zurfluh. Lillian is a direct descendant of David Legler and Barbara Streiff, pioneer settlers in New Glarus, coming to Green County in 1847. Lillian graduated from Albany High School in 1933, and was the oldest surviving student of Albany High School; attended Green County Teachers College.
Lillian married Frederick Beer, Jr. on September 16, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, Iowa. Lillian worked at Kundert-Loeffel Shoe Store, City Hotel (now known as Suisse House) & Rottler's Variety Store. She was a member of G.U.G.G. Germania Club; member of Women of the Moose Chapter #599; Zilmer Riley American Legion Post #84 Auxiliary; VFW 40-8 Auxiliary; Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop 101; and St. John's United Church of Christ of Monroe.
Surviving are her husband, Frederick Beer, Jr. of Monroe, WI; son, James R. (Olga A.) Beer of Monroe, WI; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Zurfluh, Eileen Zurfluh, and Marguerite Beer; grandchildren, Tara G. (Vikas Arora) Beer of Burlingame, CA, Crystal L. Beer of Brodhead, WI, Jennifer R. Beer, Artem A. Beer, Alexander J. Beer, all of Monroe, WI; and great-granddaughter, Avni Frances Arora of Burlingame, CA. She was predeceased by daughter, Phyllis K. Beer in 1970; Parents; siblings, Clara Robinson, Rosella Briggs, Lena Spring, Louis Zurfluh, Frederick Zurfluh, Sr., John Zurfluh, Willis Zurfluh, and Robert Zurfluh.
Lillian enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. She is also survived by her good friend, Jo-Ann Cook from Albany and many, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe with Rev. William T. Mike Heath officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe. Women of the Moose Service will follow at 7:15 P.M.
