MONROE - Lewis E. Myers of Monroe, Wisc., age 85, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010. He was born on January 18, 1925, in West Allis, Wisconsin, to Russell and Edythe Myers, both deceased. He had 2 brothers, Jack, deceased, (Barbara) and Royse, (Barbara); 2 sisters, Evelyn Hartwig (Allen), and Gwendolyn Holz (Harold, now deceased).
Lew was a veteran of World War II, (Naval Reserve) serving from March 1943 to April 1946 in the Southwest Pacific.
He was married to Florence Pape of West Allis, Wisconsin, in 1946, and was the father of Gerald W. Myers of Mt. Horeb, Wi., and Jeffrey O. Myers of Twin Lakes, Wi.
Following Florence's death in 1978, he married Lorraine Tripp of Ridgeway, Wi., in 1980. Following the death of Lorraine, he married JoAnn Chatt of Dodgeville, Wi., in April of 1986. Lew is survived by his wife, JoAnn, his two sons, Gerald (Jolynn), Jeffery (Chris), two step-daughters, Susan Chatt Coffer (Jim), Patricia Chatt James (Carl), 13 grandchildren, Joel Myers, (Brooke Anderson), Eric (Jaimie) Myers, Kelsey Myers, Garrett Coffer, Sadie Jo Coffer, Abi Coffer, Katy Ayn Coffer, Dani (Dana) James Maricque, Will James, Chris James, Cody James, Hannah James and Stephanie James, and 1 great grandson, Evan Myers.
Lew graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1953. He worked in wildlife management for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources from August 1953 until March 1984. His wildlife activities were varied but were particularly active in land acquisition along the lower Wisconsin River.
He enjoyed family, travel, gardening, bowling and other activities including his many friends.
Graveside burial service is pending. A funeral luncheon will be served at the Monroe United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 29th at 12 noon. If planning to attend, please contact Cress Funeral Home, 608-238-3434. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Lew's name.
