Kenneth "Bud" Zeitler Jr., age 58 of rural Monroe, died on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on July 8, 1952, in Marinette, the son of Kenneth and Thora (Augustine) Zeitler Sr. He was a 1970 graduate of Monroe High School. Upon graduation in 1970 he entered the United States Army where he served as a Spec-4 until 1972. Bud was a Viet Nam Veteran, part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade known as the "Sky Solders," later becoming part of the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was a member of the Cecil-Jones V.F.W. Post No. 2312. After his military service Bud decided to follow his passion for farming by furthering his education in agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While attending Madison, Bud spent the majority of his time with his fraternity brothers of Alpha Gamma RHO. After leaving college he returned home to be a part of the family owned and operated Ken's Agri Service where he could be found on a daily basis. He was an active member and alumnus of the FFA and on the IDO board of directors. Bud and Joan Hinderman were married on September 29, 1979, in Miami, Florida. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was an avid Sunday school and Confirmation teacher for many years. Bud was also a volunteer 4-H leader and coach for youth sports.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Zeitler of rural Monroe; daughter, Jennifer Zeitler currently in Germany serving with the United States Air Force; son, Jason (Kimberly Kolesar) Zeitler of Platteville; parents, Kenneth and Thora Zeitler of Monroe; brothers, Samuel Zeitler, Chuck (Gail) Zeitler; sisters, Carol (Larry) Ruch, Nancy (Terry) Larson, Ann (Steve) Halverson; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Grace Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. John Tabaka. A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Grace Lutheran Church. A memorial fund is being established in Bud's memory.
