Kathryn "Katie" Hendrickson

Kathryn "Katie" Agnes Hendrickson, age 99 of the Monroe Manor, formerly of Blanchardville, died on Friday morning, June 27, 2008 at the Monroe Manor in Monroe. She was born on February 17, 1909 at home in the Yellowstone area of Lafayette County, the daughter of Ole and Marcella (McDonald) Kammerud. She grew up on the family farm, attending the Conneley rural school. Katie was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in the Yellowstone area. She was married on March 3, 1929 to Milton Burnell Hendrickson in Hollandale. She farmed with her husband in the Mineral Point and Blanchardville areas until retiring to Blanchardville in 1977. She also cooked at the Kammerude nursing home in rural Blanchardville for several years. Milton died on March 10, 1985. Katie was very active in the Blanchardville Garden Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the senior citizens group in Blanchardville, including regularly joining in the SUN meal program. Katie was a wonderful cook and baker. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality. Katie moved to Monroe in 1995.

Kathryn is survived by three sons, Andrew (Patricia) of Blanchardville, James (Peggy) of Hollandale, and Donald (Nancy) of Blanchardville; five daughters, Donna (Paul) Ranum of Janesville, Betty (Burt) Schuldt of Sheboygan, Judy (Ed) Grabow of Monroe, Millie Francois of Belleville, and Virginia (Howard) VonRuden of Cashton, Wisconsin; 43 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Milton; one son, Milton Paul who died at 20 years of age on May 4, 1961; two grandchildren, Peter Michael VonRuden and Michelle Kathryn Francois; one great-grandchild, Daniel Thoman; and seven brothers, John, Peter, Oliver, Thomas, Lester, Joe and Howard; four sisters, Olga, Nellie, Mary and Gen.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville. Fr. Michael E. Klarer, great nephew of Katie, will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville. Friends may call Monday evening, July 7, 2008 from 4 until 9 p.m. with a Legion Auxiliary service at 5 p.m. and a rosary service at 6 p.m. at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville.
