Joseph Francis McKeon, age 65 of Onalaska, WI, a long time resident of Blanchardville died on Friday, April 6th peacefully at his home.
He was born on December 20, 1946 in St. Joseph Hospital in Dodgeville to James & Alvina (Granberg) McKeon. He grew up in rural Blanchardville and attended the Grandview rural school, and graduated from the Blanchardville High School in 1965. He worked for the Carnes Company in Verona, and then entered the US Air Force where he served from 1969 to 1971, first in Lackland Air Force Base outside of San Antonio, Texas, and then served in Viet Nam during the war until his discharge. After leaving the service he worked as a nursing assistant in Lancaster, Wisconsin, then worked at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, and then moved out to Salt Lake City around 1980 and volunteered at Veteran's Center there for many years. He moved back to Blanchardville in November of 1992 to assist his mother until her death in March of 2003. Joe loved playing cards, cribbage, bowling, and spending time with his family.
Joe is survived by a brother, Jim (Norma) McKeon of Blanchardville; 3 sisters,
Shirley Fitzsimons of Darlington, Marilyn Zentner of Monroe, and Carolyn (Roy) Ruegsegger of Blanchardville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Venden; a niece Tammy Ruegsegger; and a nephew Brian "Butch" McKeon.
Visitation for Joe McKeon will be held Wednesday evening, April 11, 2012 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville, followed by a Rosary prayer service. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blanchardville. Fr. Thomas Gillespie will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville with veteran's honors by the Dobson-Johnson American Legion Post in Blanchardville.
