EVANSVILLE - John William Schneider age 81 died Saturday April 7, 2012 at the Evansville Manor Nursing Home Evansville. He was born on September 26, 1930 in Monroe, Wisconsin the son of Henry and Ella (Wellman) Schneider. He was raised in Albany Wisconsin and attended Albany High School. After High School he joined the United States Army from July 9, 1953 to October 8, 1956 and served in the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service Medal. While overseas he met and married Setsuko Okuse on October 23, 1953 in Kobe Japan and they returned to the United States in 1954 after his tour of duty. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Evansville. John was employed by Baker Manufacturing in Evansville and then he went to work for Varco Pruden Buildings were he retired after 22 years. He loved to go fishing, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all sports especially the Green Bay Packers. John enjoyed visiting with people and working in his garden. He is survived by his wife Setsuko of Evansville, his children Connie (Steve) Benash of Evansville, John Paul (Jeanne) Schneider of Dubuque, Danny (Chikako) Schneider of Evansville, Betty (Ronnie) Wall of Evansville, his grandchildren Jonathan (Heather) Benash of Belleville, Joseph (Kelli) Benash of Monona, Christopher, and Anthony Schneider of California, Benjamin Schneider of Evansville, Melissa Schnell of Janesville, Joshua and Tyler Schnell of Evansville, Savannah, Corita and Gage Wall of Evansville, great grand-children, Raegan, Jakob, Owen and Ava, a brother Richard Schneider of Arizonia, a sister Gloria Glass of Albany, a sister in-law Hiroko Noguchi of Tokyo Japan, several nieces and nephews and many friends, two very special friends Walt Zwiefel and Bob Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday April 13, 2012 at the Ward Funeral Home Evansville with Reverend Dr. Luke Bocher Congregational United Church of Christ officiating followed by Military Rites provided by V.F.W. Post 6905 of Evansville. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery Monroe, Wisconsin. Friends may call from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday April 12, 2012 at the Ward Funeral Home Evansville.
