John "Jack" Stanley Reese

John "Jack" Stanley Reese, 83, of Monroe died February 9, 2017 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born May 29, 1933 in Dodgeville the son of John Reese, Sr. and Ella (Edam Perkins) Reese. Jack married Alice Espeseth at Otter Creek Lutheran Church near Dodgeville WI, October 2, 1954. Married for 33 years, Alice Reese died January 19, 1989.

After graduating from UW Platteville and a short stint in the Army he worked in the education field for 33 years spending time as a Math Teacher, Guidance Counselor, MHS Assistant Principal, Driver's Education Teacher, and the Monroe School District's Curriculum Coordinator. Not ready to retire completely he worked many years for the Swiss Colony (Colony Brands) in the shipping department and spent time driving to Dubuque learning to be professional Black Jack dealer on the Casino Belle River Boat.

Jack enjoyed Curling for many years at the Alpine Curling Club and going to Bonspiels, dealing and playing Black Jack on the boat and with family and friends, volunteering (and acting) with the Monroe Theatre Guild in performances and helping the Green County Humane Society making donation boxes. At Grace Lutheran Church he directed the adult choir for many years and shared his singing talents, he also was a furniture refinisher, caned and rushed chairs and collected antiques as a hobby.

Jack appreciated the love and support from his family and friends, including his second family at Baumgartner's where his dry sense of humor and wit were always on tap.

Survivors include son Steven Reese of Madison, daughter Susan (Paul) Barrett, daughter Sandra Tooley and son James Reese all of Monroe. Sister Joan (Dr. Donald) Strutt of McGregor Iowa, Sister in law Irene (Louie) Sheppard of Rochester MN. Grandchildren Zoe Barrett, John Barrett, Sam (Karla) Tooley, Alice Tooley, Jazmin Johnson, Patrisha Johnson, John Reese, Nikki (Zach) Dow, Audrey Reese, Hannah Reese. Great Grandchildren Matthew Baxter, Dotti Carillo, Charlie Dow.

He was preceded in death by wife Alice Reese, friend Barbara Nelson, brothers Don (Butch) Perkins, Forrest Perkins, sisters Melva Dettwiler, Joyce Russell, brother in law Marlin Espeseth, son in law Robert Tooley, grandson Reese Tooley.

A Celebration of Jack's Life will be Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 3:00-7:00pm at the Peppercorn Banquet and Catering, 1417 Mansion Drive in Monroe. A tribute to Jack will be at 5:00 pm. A family service and burial will be on a later date at Otter Creek Lutheran Church, Dodgeville WI. Memorials for Jack Reese can be directed to Green County Humane Society, Monroe Arts Center or Monroe Theatre Guild. Shriner Hager-Golhke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
