Ivan D. Evenson, 92, a lifelong resident of Durand, Illinois passed away peacefully at Woods Crossing in Brodhead, Wisconsin at 6:00 a.m., Sunday, December 12, 2010.
He was born in rural Laona Township on June 17, 1918 to Edward and Hazel (Kinney) Evenson. Ivan farmed the Evenson-Kinney Centennial Farm until his retirement in 1986. A graduate of Durand High School, he was drafted and served in the US Army from October 1941 thru October 1945, reaching the rank of TEC 4 in the 108th Infantry and participating in battles on the Bismarck Archipelago, the Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was married to Eleanore Battalia for 61 years. She preceded him in death in 2006. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Monroe Hospice and Woods Crossings for their loving support of our father and grandfather.
Survivors include daughters Carol Silberman, Winnebago, Illinois and Judy (Bill) Stauffer, Durand, Illinois; son Lauren (Cindy) Evenson, Durand, Illinois; grandchildren Sandra Stauffer, Greenwood, Indiana, Shane (Kelly) Stauffer and Nathan Stauffer, both of Durand, Illinois, Jason Silberman, Pecatonica, Illinois, Rhyse, Eve and Julia Evenson, all of Durand, Illinois; great grandchildren Patrick and Amanda Stauffer, both of Durand, Illinois; and nephew Mark Schultz, Beloit, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister and brother-in-law Edna and Richard Schultz and son-in-law Edwin Silberman.
Funeral Ceremonies will be held 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 16, 2010 at McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois with Pastor Richard Thickpenny and Pastor Larry Froemming, c o-officiating. Burial will be in the Durand Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until time of service Thursday. A private burial will be held at Durand Cemetery, Durand, Illinois at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established to the Durand Fire Department, PO Box 185, Durand, IL 61024.
