Gertrude B. Voelkli, age 87 of Monroe, WI, passed away peacefully in her easy chair in her winter home in Apache Junction, AZ on Nov. 26, 2011. She had just spent a wonderful week with her husband, at her daughter's home in Centennial, CO for an early Thanksgiving with three of her grand-children and three great grandchildren.
Gertrude, a kind and gentle spirit, will be dearly missed by her loving family. She was married to Roger Voelkli in May 1944. She graduated from Argyle High School in 1942 and was their first female Drum Majorette her graduate year. Gertrude also attended Nurses Training in Madison, WI.
Gertrude was a devoted wife and mother. She was a gymnast with the Monroe Turn & Swing Club in the late 1930s. She loved to sing and polka dance and was a member of the Monroe Swiss Singers and served as Treasurer for 2 years for the Monroe Chapter of the Sweet Adelines in the late 1970s. She also enjoyed golf and had been a member of the Monroe Country Club for many years. She also enjoyed playing Euchre with her close family and friends. Gertrude was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Jegerlehner, Jr., Hazel Green, mother and father Ida and Albert Jegerlehner and son, Jack Voelkli, all of Monroe, WI. Gertrude is survived by her loving husband, Roger Voelkli and son, Max Voelkli of Madison, and her daughter, Linda Voelkli Kubly of Centennial, CO. She has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at St. John's United Church of Christ, with Reverend William T. Mike Heath officiating.
