BRODHEAD - George A. Nickels, age 79, of Brodhead, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011, at his home. He was born on February 7, 1932 in Aurora, IL, the son of Leonard and Madeline (Harker) Nickels.
George had farmed north of Monroe and also worked for Advance Transformer of Monroe for over 25 years. He provided transportation for the Amish community in the Brodhead area for 20 years.
He is survived by his children: Marie (Andrew) Swedlund, Helen Nickels, both of Monroe, Clare (Rocky) Swedlund, Juda, Elizabeth Nickels, Milwaukee, Anthony (Cheryl) Nickels, Orfordville, Leonard (Dianna) Nickels, Brodhead, Joseph (Melissa) Nickels, Argyle, Mark (Chelsea Simmonsen) Crans, Evansville, two brothers, Matt (Kathline) Nickels, Clovis, CA, Dennis (Sharon) Nickels, Sugar Grove, IL, three sisters, Patricia Nickels, Minooka, IL, Kathryn Lubinski, Bay Side, WI, Mary (Terry) Hoffman, Sugar Grove, IL, fifteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, LeRoy, and a son, Robert, in infancy.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 11, 2011, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Brodhead, with Father Michael Klarer presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD.
