Dina (Secondina) Speich

Dina (Secondina) Speich, age 87, passed away on Feb. 9, 2011, at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born in Kenosha, WI on Oct. 7, 1923, to Italian immigrants, the late Felice and Tersilla (Richetto) Tasso. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford Senior High School, Kenosha, WI in 1941 and then Kenosha Secretarial School. She attended UW Madison School of Journalism, graduating in 1947. On Aug. 7, 1948 she was united in marriage to Walter Speich at St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, WI.

Dina's first job, after graduating, brought her to Monroe as a reporter for The Monroe Evening Times, where she worked for many years. She also worked at the First National Bank, and the Green County Court House in the DA's office.

Dina was especially fond of the arts and the written word. Over the years she attended multiple art fairs, museums, classes and enrichment seminars. Dina had a keen interest in cultures around the world and Wally and Dina took memorable trips to Switzerland, Italy, Canada and from coast to coast in the US. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, former member of the Monroe Woman's Club, Business and Professional Woman's Organization, Sweet Adelines and the Monroe Swiss Singers.

She is survived by her son Richard (Chandra) Speich, Monroe, grandchildren Jason Speich, Snowmass Village, CO and Carmen (Mark) Halvorson, Spooner, WI, her brother Primo Tasso, Chicago, IL and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Wally on Dec. 31, 2010.

Funeral services will be at St. John's United Church of Christ on Monday Feb. 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Gretchen Sylvester officiating, a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held on Sunday Feb. 13, 2011 at Shriner Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
